Your free quarter unlocks when you connect to HMRC in the app. Nothing to cancel.

Plus starts straight away. By subscribing you’re asking us to begin during the 14-day cancellation period; if you cancel we refund you automatically, prorated for the days you used.

£50 a year. Less than one HMRC penalty.

Compared with an accounting suite

Accounting suites run £15–30 a month and want you to learn them. QuarterFile does one job. If you need general ledgers, stock and payroll, you want something bigger.

Before you buy

  • Plus renews automatically: £12.50 at the start of each quarter, or £45 a year on the tax-year plan, until you cancel.
  • Cancel any time: two clicks in Settings, no questions asked. After your first 14 days you keep Plus until the quarter you’ve paid for ends.
  • Cancel in your first 14 days and we refund you, prorated for the days you used.

Cancel in Settings, or send us a message. Read the full terms.

HMRC recognition is in progress, and sign-ups are not open yet. Filing opens for the 7 February 2027 quarter. Until then you can check your MTD date, read the guides and join the reminder list: we’ll email you the day sign-ups open.

Pricing questions

The money details

Is Free really free?

Yes, and forever. Everything you need to comply, by hand: one business (a sole trade or one UK property), manual transaction entry, quarterly updates, deadline reminders and email support. The final declaration will be part of Free too; the first one isn’t due until 31 January 2028. No time limit, no card, no “first year only”. QuarterFile Plus adds speed: CSV import, AI-suggested categories, the set-aside estimate, up to five businesses and priority support.

How does the free first quarter of Plus work?

Sign up (no card), and your first quarter of Plus unlocks the moment you connect your account to HMRC. That connection is how we know it’s your first. If you don’t continue, you drop to Free automatically. Nothing to cancel, nothing charged.

There are free MTD tools on gov.uk. Why pay at all?

You might not need to pay at all. Several genuinely free tools can keep you compliant, and your bank may be one of them: Monzo files quarterly updates from inside the app on every business plan, including the free one (verified on Monzo’s own site, 11 August 2026), and Monzo, Starling, Lloyds, Tide, SumUp and Coconut all showed free versions for individuals on HMRC’s software finder on 14 August 2026. We compare every route, limits and all, in our guides to the best free MTD software and free MTD software through your bank. QuarterFile’s HMRC recognition is in progress: filing opens for the 7 February 2027 quarter, and when it does QuarterFile Free will be a free option too. Free tools can file a quarter, including tools built into some business bank accounts. QuarterFile is built around the rest of the job, with no bank switch required: a reminder before it matters, your bank statement or spreadsheet doing the typing, every figure confirmed by you before it goes, an HMRC receipt kept for each filing, and up to five businesses on one flat price.

Is VAT added?

No. We’re not VAT-registered, so the price you see is the total you pay: £12.50 a quarter, or £45 once for the whole tax year. If that ever changes, prices here will be shown with VAT already included.

Why quarterly billing?

Because your obligation is quarterly. The billing period matches the filing period, so £12.50 covers the quarter you’re filing. Prefer one decision a year? At checkout you can cover your whole tax year for £45. Both plans renew automatically until you cancel, and you can cancel in two clicks from Settings at any time.

What happens if I cancel mid-year?

You keep Plus until the quarter you’ve paid for ends. No retention questionnaire, and cancelling takes two clicks. After that your account becomes a read-only vault rather than the free tier: your records stay viewable, your transactions export as CSV, and every filed receipt stays viewable and printable for as long as HMRC could ask about it. Adding records and filing need an active subscription again, and resuming takes one click. There’s also a 14-day cooling-off period on new subscriptions.

Do you do refunds?

Within 14 days of first subscribing, yes, and automatically. Cancel in Settings and we refund you on the spot, prorated for the days you’ve had Plus. After the 14 days, tax-year plans are refunded for the unused quarters at our discretion.

Is there a plan for accountants?

An agent tier (£25 a month per 10 clients) is planned. If you’re an accountant who wants somewhere sensible to send small clients, send us a message. Early agent accounts are set up for you.
