Why did my HMRC connection fail?
Usually the permission screen was declined or timed out. Press Connect again on the filing screen, sign in on HMRC’s page, then press “Grant authority”. Our connection guide walks through every screen.
I connected to HMRC but there are no quarters to file. Why?
Almost always because the separate sign-up for MTD for Income Tax hasn’t gone through on HMRC’s side. Connecting QuarterFile grants permission; it doesn’t enrol you, so HMRC has no quarters to send back. Sign up once on gov.uk, give HMRC a day or two to publish your obligations, then come back and your quarters appear. Nothing you have recorded is affected in the meantime. How do I correct a mistake in a filed quarter?
Fix the transaction in your records. Quarterly updates are cumulative, so your next one carries the correction automatically. Here’s how that works.
Why can’t I sign in?
There’s no password. Sign in with Google, or ask for a one-time email link. If the link isn’t arriving, check your spam folder and that the address matches. Each link works once and expires quickly, so request a fresh one if in doubt, and open it on the device you asked from.
Why won’t my bank statement import?
Check the date and amount columns on the matching step. Skipped rows are usually balance rows or unreadable dates. Our import guide covers the common fixes. Still stuck? Send us the header row, not the data, and we’ll map it.
Is HMRC down?
If HMRC’s services are having problems, a banner appears at the top of your overview. Nothing is lost, and filing resumes when HMRC recovers.
How quickly will you reply?
Within one working day, whichever plan you are on, including QuarterFile Free. Plus messages go to the front of the queue in the week before a quarterly deadline, which is when the queue is longest. If your message is about a filed quarter, include the receipt reference from your overview and the first reply can be the useful one.
Can you tell me if an expense is deductible?
No. QuarterFile is record-keeping and filing software, not tax advice, so your accountant or HMRC’s guidance is the right place for that.
Can I export my data?
Always. Settings, then Export, gives you your transactions as CSV, and every filed receipt stays viewable and printable from your overview.
